We are not affiliated with US Rider, but here is some helpful info from their website about traveling safely:
US Rider Travel Safety: https://usrider.org/category/travel-safety/
WWhat you need to pick up: A 2" ball and 7-way electrical connector are required for all of our horse trailers. To rent, we require a valid drivers license, a tow vehicle with active insurance, a completed rental form (which we provide at pickup) and payment (venmo or cash) at pickup.
The trailers must remain in the United States.
Delivery: ($30 minimum per pick up and drop off) We can possibly do pickup and delivery to your property for a fee if the rental is longer than 48 hours, depending on our driver availability and distance. See FAQ's for more info.
Don't have a tow vehicle, or have a difficult horse to load? References for experienced equine transporters, truck rentals, and horse trainers available.
How do I reserve a trailer?
Text Morgan @ (919) 371-8744 with your name, your preferred trailer, and the dates you are interested in booking. Morgan manages the schedule, and any scheduling changes must be done through her. Text is the fastest way to reach us and receive a response.
If you are unable to text, you may email at Morgan@HollowayTrailerRentals.com, or leave a voicemail.
You should expect an initial response by text within one hour during reasonable business hours.
What do I need to rent?
The driver must bring their driver's license (we check), and have an appropriate tow vehicle with valid registration/insurance. If your vehicle is not safe enough to tow with, many customers rent pickup trucks instead. We do not offer truck rentals. All of our trailers require a 2" ball and a 7-way connector. If you don't have one, we have a 2" ball and a drop hitch for you to use during your rental for an extra $10.
How do I pay?
Payment (cash or venmo) is due at pickup. We also have a rental form for you to sign before hooking up the trailer.
You will be notified of any fees due (cleaning, damage, late, etc) due within 48hrs of drop off. Tolls are the exception and may take up to 30 days. We do not charge an admin fee for tolls, we only ask that you pay your toll cost.
Do you offer last-minute bookings?
It's best to book at least 24-hours in advance, but we can accommodate last minute bookings based on availability. It's best to book weekends at least two weeks or more in advance. You can book out as far as three months.
What time can I pick up and drop off?
We offer pickup at our property from 7am-7pm daily. You may dropoff yourself anytime for free, and we can help you get it hooked up and lights double checked for free. You must be on the rental schedule to access the property.
Pickups and dropoffs after hours (8pm-6am) that need our assistance are subject to a fee ($20) for the employee's time.
Do I have to clean my trailer when I'm done?
Yes, or we can clean it for you for $20.
The trailer must be returned in the same condition as it was picked up. Any excess mud, oil, etc. requiring a wash on the trailer's exterior is subject to a $20 fee. You will be notified of any cleaning fees due within 48hrs of the trailer's return.
Do you provide any equipment?
No. We only provide the trailer and hitch rental, if needed. You must provide your own equipment for your animals (halters, leadropes, water buckets or jugs, hay nets, shavings, trailer ties, etc.)
What livestock and horses can I haul?
You are welcome to haul any animals that are the appropriate size for our trailers. We often have pigs, sheep, cows, and horses hauled. We can convert our trailers to a box stall or stock at no extra charge, but please let us know if you need it converted when you book.
What does 24-hour rental mean?
A 24 hour rental is the time period of your rental, from scheduled pickup to dropoff. (For example, Friday noon pickup to Saturday drop off at or before noon is 24 hours)
Do you offer a half-day rental?
No, our cheapest rental option is the less than 12-hour price. This price covers 0-12 hours.
What happens if I pick up late?
When an employee is scheduled to assist you at pickup for a certain time, they are doing a last inspection and waiting for you to arrive for at least an hour before your pickup time. If you are more than an hour late for your scheduled pickup time, a $20/hour fee may apply. Your rental period begins at the time you are scheduled to pick up.
Can I extend my rental while I have the trailer?
Possibly, if the trailer is available. Text (919) 371-8744 for scheduling changes.
The rental period you initially booked is reserved for you until the scheduled drop off day/time. Especially on weekends, the trailer may be booked for the next day and may not be available. If you think you may need the trailer for longer it's recommended to book the full period upfront when scheduling so the trailer is available for you.
A fee may apply for late returns without approved extensions. See FAQ below.
If I return the trailer early can I get a refund?
We do not offer refunds for early returns because the trailer was reserved for you during your rental period.
What happens if I return the trailer late?
If you keep the trailer longer than your reserved rental period a $100 late fee applies, plus the rental price difference if applicable. This can be avoided by requesting an extension (text 919-371-8744).
What is your no-show and cancellation policy?
No-shows and cancellations less than 24hrs of your rental time are subject to 100% of the rental price because the trailer was reserved for you during this time period.
As we are currently cash-based, you will be notified of no-show or cancellation fees due within 48 hours of your scheduled missed pickup or late cancellation, and will be required to pay before your next rental can be scheduled.
What if I damage the trailer?
Please notify us immediately of damages. Many fixes are minor that we do not charge for. The renter must pay for substantial damages they or their animals have caused. We inspect the trailer when it is brought back and you will be notified of any damages within 48hrs of its return.
What if I have a flat tire?
All tires are inspected before and after rentals for general safety, pressure, damage, and tread.
If a flat tire or tire damage occurs during your rental by improper use (including improperly adjusted brakes), the renter may be responsible for the cost of replacement. Spare tires are included on all of our trailers, which the renter is responsible for installing if they have a flat tire during their rental.
We recommend a US Rider membership for roadside assistance. We may be available to assist locally.
Can I adjust the tire pressure?
No, the tire pressure is properly adjusted and checked several times a week and before each rental.
What if the trailer lights don't work, or something is wrong with my vehicle?
We check our trailer's lights several times a week, and we are happy to check these for you when you pick up. If the trailer lights do not work, your tow vehicle likely has a blown fuse, faulty wiring, or a bad connector. We have a tester to double check this for you. Some vehicles require you to enable tow mode.
If you cannot rent due to a malfunction with your vehicle, this is considered a last-minute cancellation (non-refundable). We are happy to waive this fee (one time) for vehicle malfunctions preventing you from renting.
For safety reasons, we reserve the right to refuse service to vehicles that are unsafe or inadequate for towing.
What if I don't know how to hook up a trailer?
For safety reasons, renters must be familiar and comfortable with connecting, disconnecting, and towing trailers. We may refuse service to anyone we believe may not be able to haul safely, or has a vehicle inadequate for towing.
What if I drive through tolls?
Renters are responsible for tolls. The state sends the toll to us via our trailer's license plates. If applicable, we will contact you within 30 days of your rental for reimbursement. We do not charge admin fees, we only ask that you reimburse us for tolls paid.
Do you offer delivery of the trailer?
We offer delivery on a case-by-case basis, with a $30 minimum. We charge $2/mile from zip code 27587.
(For example, If you need it delivered 20 miles away from us and will return it to us yourself, the delivery fee is $40. If you need us to also pick it up from you from the same distance, it would be an additional $40).
Delivery fee(s) and the rental contract must be paid for and completed upfront, and the delivery fee is nonrefundable if you cancel within 24hrs of your scheduled rental period (last-minute cancellation).
Do you offer transport or assist in loading horses/livestock?
No, however references for experienced transporters and trainers are available.
